Key Responsibilities
Provided oversight and leadership to program coordinators who directed activities to support students in specialized programs. Programs included Student Support Services (Federal TRIO grant), Brother 2 Brother (for African American males), the College Reach-Out Program (CROP), a State of Florida grant, the Center of Excellence (Florida Education Fund Grant), Summer of Success, Students Handling Academic Responsibility Precisely (SHARP), and the Student Success Connections Program (Workforce Development Grant).

Major Accomplishments
Established and directed SPC’s Brother 2 Brother (B2B) Program for African American males, designed to improve success and graduation rates. B2B was a finalist for the Terry O’Banion Shared Journey Award, and was an Exemplary Model in the May 2005 issue of the The Chronicle for Higher Education.

Developed a progression pathway for special program participants to advance from one SPC student support program to the next. This pipeline increased the number of previously underprepared students entering college and earning a degree or certificate.

Developed a partnership with Pinellas County Schools to improve underprepared students’ high school completion rates as well as their rate of enrolling in post-secondary education.

Key Responsibilities
Responsible for overall implementation and management of the Student Support Services Program, a federal TRIO Program for underprepared adult learners. The purpose is to help a first generation student’s transition to college and to provide case management and mentoring to assure success and graduation.

Major Accomplishments
Designed and fully implemented SPC’s first SSS Program.

Managed fiscal resources through several funding cycles and received additional performance-based dollars by exceeding program requirements; the program is still in existence at SPC.

Developed and implemented a needs assessment protocol and online documentation process to measure student success and to timely address areas of need.

Key Responsibilities
This temporary assignment was made to help a new Provost develop and facilitate contract proposals for special programs, do quarterly and annual reporting, and supervise staff activities. Responsible for participating in planning and designing program procedures and organizational structure for Presidential Classroom, Center of Excellence, College Reach-Out Program, Youth Employment Program, and the Project Success initiative. Managed other programs/initiatives as assigned.

Major Accomplishments
Enhanced processes and services to improve student success rates and the quality of support services provided to Project Success program participants.

Managed an on-campus Summer Youth Employment Program in collaboration with WorkNet Pinellas and exceeded participant completion rate goals.

Secured scholarships for five Thurgood Marshall Program participants (high school minority students who are academic achievers) to attend the Presidential Classroom, a two-week program offered annually for high school leaders in Washington, D.C.

The Pathway Program

Key Responsibilities
The Pathway Program paved the way for aspiring disadvantaged and other underrepresented students to enter the Nursing and Allied Health programs at St. Petersburg College. The coordinator provided a career guidance component and other services, enabling students to increase their self-esteem and selfadvocacy; improve their socialization, work, and study skills; gain knowledge on conflict resolution and problem solving; and make career decisions matching their interests, abilities, and aptitudes. Responsible for helping underprepared students meet criteria to gain acceptance to a limited access health program of choice, maintain standards to graduate and pass state/national boards to enter the workforce.

Major Accomplishments
Developed and fully implemented SPC’s Pathway Program.

Closed the enrollment gap for students of color in limited access programs.

Expanded the number of minority health care practitioners in Pinellas County.

Received 1994 Best Practices Award in Vocational Education from the Florida Vocational Association.

Received 1995 Exemplary Career Guidance & Counseling Program Award from the National Center for Research in Vocational Education (NCRVE).

Established collaborative partnerships with various minority health professional organizations, paving the way for further relationship building in minority communities.

Expanded community awareness of health programs offered at SPC as well as job opportunities.

Highlighted courses to provide pre-health program students expanded support to gain admission to limited access programs.

Expanded program enrollment and exceeded enrollment goals for all students, especially minority students.

Increased and improved lines of communication among financial aid departments college-wide.

Developed a financial aid accounting procedures manual.

Improved consistency in the accounting clerk role across the college and served as a resource for colleagues in the financial aid department.
